Summer 2015 Reflections

Summer has flown by and while I feel ready to restart my school work, I am not looking forward to the early mornings, winter sniffles, and chilly weather. There’s pros and cons to everything! Today I’m sharing a reflection on the past few months, the pros and the cons.

Also in June, I had my 1 year anniversary since being discharged. The year flew by and it’s crazy to think that I spent half of my summer last year in treatment. June was a hard month ed-wise because of this. But this is not an eating disorder focused post so we’re moving on.

Probably the biggest event in June was traveling to Georgia for the healthcare NSLC program. I spent 10 days staying in Georgia Tech’s dorms learning medical and leadership skills. It was a very great Screen shot 2015-08-18 at 6.10.51 PMway for me to practice being on my own. Being a senior in high school, college has been a large point of discussion in my household. Letting my parents trust me enough to go to college is a huge motivation for me to recover right now. After this medical camp, I feel even more strongly about having a future career in the medical field. Nursing is my major of choice right now. And for those curious, I do not want to work with eating disorders.

July was a bit more quiet of a month. My parents both travelled a bunch. We spent the Fourth of July watching a parade and going to a neighborhood pool party. I spent lots of time babysitting and seeing friends.

Near the end of the month, I got my wisdom teeth out, and am happy that the process is over with. Not fun, but necessary.

We kicked off August by visiting my grandparents in Iowa. I mentioned that my parents were traveling a lot in July, and unfortunately my mom was visiting her parents because my grandma is very sick. She’s had lung problems for years (smoking complications) and is probably at the end of her life. She’s currently on hospice. I am glad that I got to see her and talk to her in case I am not able to see her again at Christmas.

Well, that’s about it for today everyone! I hope you are all doing well.

What are you looking forward to for fall? Do you have any favorite memories from this summer?
